This double-sided hand-drum, or damaru, has been hand-crafted in Nepal according to the traditional Tantric specifications. A damaru can be seen wielded in the right hand of numerous deities, and it is perhaps the most commonly used instrument in tantric rituals. Its sound both inspires and invokes all of the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and dakinis. Even as it sits on an altar, the hollow body of the drum symbolizes the dharmakaya, while its two sides symbolize the union of appearance and emptiness.

Although the damaru can either be made from bone or wood, bone implements are often prescribed for tantric practicioners—especially in accomplishing the practices of wrathful deities. While once relatively common, these kapalika damarus obtained from the charnel grounds are now quite rare. Fortunately, we can assure the authenticity of this dharma implement with great confidence. Not only are the materials authentic—the traditional craftsmanship of this damaru will insure the invocation of blessings in an unobstructed way.

Damaru measures approximately 4.5" x 5.25" and weighs 1lb 1.4 oz inside included molded cloth case

Authentic bone items cannot be shipped outside the U.S.A—sorry for the inconvenience.
