Product Description

This Dorje Drolo with Retinue canvas print comes from a thangka commissioned by Lama Sonam Tsering Rinpoche who worked closely with the artist to ensure the iconography is in accordance with the description in the sadhana.

Guru Dorje Drolo, which translates to Wild Wrathful Vajra, is one of the Eight Manifestations of Guru Rinpoche. Dorje Drolo is depicted riding a pregnant tigress, with a Dorje in his right hand and phurba in his left. Guru Rinpoche assumed this manifestation in Paro Taktsang in Bhutan in order to bring the local deities and guardians under his control.

From A Great Treasure of Blessings: At thirteen different places called 'Tiger's Lair', Taktsang, Guru Rinpoche manifested in "the terrifying wrathful form of crazy wisdom" binding worldly spirits under oath to protect the terma treasures and serve the Dharma. Then he is known as Dorje Drolö, 'Wild Wrathful Vajra'.

Canvas print measures approximately 12W x 16H x 1.5D

The thangka brocade pattern wraps around the canvas edge, so it can be displayed unframed for a modern look.
