Product Description

Tara, or "She who liberates," is a female deity who is known for her swift protection for those who call upon her, and her enlightened activity and compassion. Yeshe Tsogyal was an emanation of Tara, and Tara is often considered to be the patron protector of Tibet. Of the twenty-one forms of Tara, Green is one of the most popular and is considered the main form of Tara and the source of all her manifestations.

Closely associated with Buddha Amitabha and Chenrezig, the Green Tara is considered the mother of all Bodhisattvas-- in fact, she loves all sentient beings as a mother would. According to Lama Tharchin, practicing Green Tara offers "protection from all of our fear and suffering, whether immediate or long-term". Her mantra is OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SO HA.

This large thangka is a particularly fine depiction of Tara. Emerald green, she sits in a posture of royal ease on a white lotus and moon seat. Her facial features are peaceful and her gaze filled with compassion.  Draped in delicate silks of different colors, she wears a jeweled tiara and gold ornaments. Her right hand bestows blessings and protection from fear. The fingers of her left hand are placed close to her heart, forming a circle that symbolizes the union of wisdom and method. She holds the stem of a stainless blue lotus in full bloom. She rests against a luminous moon disc. An orange nimbus radiates around her head, and above that is a swirl of rainbow lights. Almost hidden at top of the thangka are a miniature crescent moon and sun, in radiant gold.

At the bottom of the thangka you will see a row of jewel offerings. Between two pairs of tusks are exquisite, sphere-shaped earrings representing the precious queen, a triad of flaming jewels, and a spotless white conch.

Hand-painted by a Nepali artist, this exquisite thankga can be a powerful support to your practice. It can also be offered as gift to someone you are especially fond of, and care about.

The image measures 22.75 " high and 16.75" wide. Overall brocade is 45" high and 31" wide. Dowel measures 36". auspicious symbols are embossed on the the dowel caps, painted in muted gold.
