Product Description

Exquisite traditional painted thangka with blue, red, and gold brocade.

Guru Rinpoche, or Padmasambhava, was the 8th century Buddhist master from Uddiyana who was responsible for bringing the Dharma to Tibet and for establishing a lasting lineage there at the request of King Trisong Detson. He is am emanation of Amitbha, the Lord of Infinite Light, and is considered to be the founder of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism.  Here, Guru Rinpoche is holding a vajra in his right hand and a skull-cup brimming with nectar and containing a vase of longevity in his left hand.  He is also holding the ornate katvanga staff of a Vajrayana mendicant decorated with white streamers, which rests against the left shoulder.
