This fine quality copper statue of bodhisattva Vajrapani, who is one of the lords of the three families, was made in Nepal by traditional crafts people. The statue is partially gilded, with a hand-painted golden face. The finely-cast ornaments are detailed with turquoise colored stones. In his right arm he holds a vajra, and in his left he wields a lasso. The statue is cast in three pieces: the base, the deity, and the finely painted wreath of flames which borders the deity. Vajrapani is known especially for transmitting the tantras to the human realm, and represents the power of the Buddhas.
