A ga'o (pron. "gow") is an amulet or a prayer box usually containing written prayers or holy relics. Used in Tibetan Buddhism for centuries, gau are used to house items with sacred meaning as one travels from place to place. In larger sizes, they may actually contain small statues, and work much like a portable altar. This is a pendant gau, which can be worn like a necklace pendant. On the front is a small statue of Buddha. This of course opens up, revealing a container which can be used any way one wishes. Perhaps you have a special prayer or a mantra which can be written very small and rolled up inside. Or maybe a special relic, or some dudtsi. Whatever the case, this precious gau is the perfect way to bring your special Dharma treasures with you wherever you go!
